DanforthRAD Update - 19 January 2026

BIG CHANGES AFOOT! MARK THESE ON YOUR CALENDAR AND GET INVOLVED!

  • 1. AFFORDABLE HOUSING DELAY

MONDAY, JAN 19 – DEADLINE TO TELL THE PROVINCE WE NEED MORE TIME TO COMMENT ON ITS PLAN TO DELAY THE CITY’s RIGHT TO REQUIRE SOME
AFFORDABLE HOUSING

 Why?

As long as builders and developers have submitted at least an application for rezoning by July 1, 2027, it looks like the City won’t be able to require even a minimal amount of affordable housing be included when their projects eventually get built. Which could be a lot later, and affect a lot of projects.

The Province gave only 7 days to comment. We’re sending our concerns and a request for more time. Please email us your comments ASAP at info@danforthrad.ca and we’ll forward them.

Basic information here: https://www.regulatoryregistry.gov.on.ca/proposal/53094

2. ZONING NEAR MAJOR TRANSIT STATION AREAS

WEDNESDAY, JAN  21 at 6:30-8:30 – FIND OUT ABOUT MAJOR INCREASES TO HEIGHT, DENSITY, etc. NEAR TRANSIT STATIONS

 Why?

This is a City-hosted Town Hall webinar where experts outline what the Province has changed and how the City will have to update its zoning. The City is asking for people’s comments and advice. A good way to get up to speed with the issues.

Registration, Overview and Drop-Downs for Meeting Dates and Events and  Requirements for Station Areas here: https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/planning-development/planning-studies-initiatives/zoning-for-major-transit-station-areas/

3. TUESDAY, JAN 27at 6-7:30 pm – FOR TORONTO & EAST
YORK RESIDENTS TO DIG INTO THE DETAILS MORE

 Why?

At Open Houses, you usually don’t get to listen to a “presentation” – instead there are boards with the same information that people
can examine, staff you can question, and requests for feedback.

  • 6 pm at West End Alternative School, 777 Bloor St W, Toronto (Again, DanforthRAD would  love to know
    if you’re planning to attend.)

If you can’t make either of those or want another chance to give your feedback there are more Open Houses. And a final Town Hall will be
held on Feb 12 at 6:30-8:30 pm, Council Chamber, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St W, Toronto.

Hope to see you at one or more of these!
